Week Ending February 3rd - Mike, Steve, and Kevin

Mike Girouard, Steve Gendron, and Kevin Carnabucci

The groundhog's done his thing, which means we're emerging from the racing doldrums. This weekend saw a bunch of great efforts, like Mike Girouard at the Great Stew Chase 15k, and Steve Gendron and Kevin Carnabucci at the Super 5k. The AOW committee scans the interwebz from edge to edge, but as the mercury rises so too does the number of Angry Chickens pinning on bibs.

The Athlete of the week for January 28th - February 3rd didn't take long to make his presence as a member of Greater Lowell known.  Getting ready for his entry into the Masters category in March, Kevin Carnabucci dug deep at the Super 5k for his first sub 18:00 in...well...quite a while.  The green and gold apparently suits 'bucci well, as his finish in 17:46 was good for 15th overall and second Angry Chicken.

He's a very welcome addition to our Men's Masters team, and we're looking forward to more great races from him.  Please join me in congratulating Kevin on his selection as Athlete Of The week.

The AOW committee has some serious catching up to do, but the first rule of getting out of a hole is "stop digging". So we are going to award AOW for the week ending 2/24, and backfill our other recipients as soon as possible.

This was an awesome week to be an Angry Chicken, so many great performances and so much fun in Amherst. Way too much awesomeness to pick a single winner.
To quote Matt Story, "winning your age group in a Grand Prix is a big effing deal". Yes it is Matthew, yes it is. Liane Pancoast took on the best that New England has to offer, and came out on top of the 55-59 AG. That's how to celebrate your first day in a new age group, happy birthday Liane!

Our second winner continues to roll to new personal records on a regular basis, seeing the payoff for his commitment to high volume and high quality training. James "The Pocatello Kid" Sullivan made a "big effing deal" statement of his own, flattening out the hills of Amherst in 56:22 for 30th overall and 1st Angry Chicken. That's 5:39 per mile on a rollercoaster course, I can't wait to see what the Kid has up his sleeve for the rest of the series (especially the Hollis Fast 5k, get outta the way, ANGRY Chicken coming through!)
