Great race by Steve Gendron – first GLRR runner over the line in 2nd place overall with a 15:49.

Our first chicklet was Trish in 19:46 (good for first Master). This was picked by Somerville as an SRR Grand Prix race – so we were over-run by Bumble Bees – still the chickens showed well overall. Top runners were:
EJ first Senior; Johanna Riley 3rd Vet; Denny LeBlanc and George Bisson 1-2 in Vets
and George Leslie first Super Vet.
Martha's Vineyard 20-miler
Four Chickens made the trip out to the island for this one. Jason Bui finished 17th overall with a 2:12. Ally Maslowski finished with an impressive 2:30. The “twins” Zona Sharfman and Susan Bourque finished in 2:37 and 2:40.

The biggest news was the first ever (as far as we know) officially canceled Fudgcicle. The Nemo blizzard scared the crap out of us and after a lot of bluster from us about never canceling – we (the loosely organized Fudge committee) had lots of emails and calls back and forth and we gave in to cancel – then a few hours later Gov Patrick issued the travel ban. So this year the season was six races rather than the scheduled seven.

So this year the season was six races rather than the scheduled seven.
On the competitive side – the fastest man was Dave Corbett (hmm maybe we need to twist his arm into a chicken wing and get him in green). Our fastest rooster was Liam Skinner at 18:12. The fastest chicklet was Trish Bourne at 20:41, but she failed to show up Saturday and so Liane Pancoast walked away with the coveted Fudgcicle medal with a 22:38.
Most improved woman was a new runner brought by Andre Chandonnet – Marangely Pagan who improved by almost 33 minutes.
At the Fudgcicle you must to present to the win the coveted medals - and so our most consistent runner medal winners were Andre and Marli Piccolo – who both averaged within 12 seconds of the overall average pace.

The Fudgcicle remains insanely popular – each week we had more new runners that we could imagine – even this past week… all in all there were 228 runners that ran one or more Fudgcicles. We averaged 92 finishers a week with a (we think) an all-time high of 109. Field size at least at the beginning was a problem – but with some instruction to the runners – that seemed to abate – the runners were (mostly) great at following our race guidelines. Still we are considering a couple of ideas for limiting size – perhaps a time change to 7:30 and/or a slight price increase with extra funds donated to local Tewksbury charities.
Last on the Fudgcicle – thanks to all the volunteers – Jessica, Mike Sheehan, John Morrison, Pat Sheridan, Nancy Stronach and the only volunteer to make it every single week – Scott Casper.
