The GLRR youth team had another outstanding year in 2017, capped by another appearance at Nationals in Hoover, AL. The team sent the boys 9-10 team -- 5 of who made the trip -- as well as 4 individual runners. Makayla netted the best ever finish by a GLRR youth runner at Nationals with a 28th place in the 13-14 girls' 4K. That put a cap on a great year for her, in which she was #2 in her AG in New England in XC, # 1 in New England in 1500 meters, and #2 in New England in 800 meters, as well as the Massachusetts middle school 8th grade XC champion. She was also a medal winner at both the Hershey indoor and outdoor national championships.Kimmie had the 3rd best finish for a GLRR youth with a 54th place showing in the 11-12 girls' 3K. She also was #6 in New England in her AG in XC and finished 3rd in the state in her class at the Massachusetts middle school meet.
Colin K. cracked the top 200 in the 11-12 yo boys' 3K. He had a breakout year in 2016, competing in the 11/12 age group at Hershey Nationals and Junior Olympics. He was #1 in New England in the 800 meters in his AG, 19th in the 3000 meters in XC in New England, and a member of 2 medal winning relay teams at Nationals, including a 4x400 relay team that was #1 in New England.
The 9-10 year old boys were outmanned with only 5 runners, but still were able to fight off a few teams for a 24th place finish. Mason (132) and Oden (188) cracked the top 200 and were joined by Matt, Colin S., and Zach.
Naomi finished just outside of the top 200 in the 9-10 yo girls' 3K. She will look to build on this experience in the spring.
